Dorothy Peterson

Dorothy Gertrude Peterson, 84, of Decorah, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999,
at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at 11 a.m., at the
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Joan Mau officiating.

Casket bearers were Robert Burns, Gerald Erickson, Mark Ewing, Tom Hougen, Milfred Nelson and Brian Peterson.

Interment was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Dorothy (Bray) Peterson was born April 16, 1915, in Post Township, Allamakee County, near Postville, the daughter of John Lewis and Ruth A. (Dundee) Bray.

Dorothy graduated from Postville High School. She taught from 1934-36
at Myron Country School in Post Township. Dorothy worked for Farmers
Telephone Co. for 15 years.

On April 20, 1958 Dorothy was married to Ervin A. Peterson at Hauge Lutheran Church of rural Decorah. He died May 28, 1988.

Dorothy assisted Ervin in his business of Peterson Sales and Service until
1969. She groomed dogs for about 10 years. She served as president of the Postville Auxiliary No. 9125 and as president of the V.F.W Auxiliary of the 9th
District. Dorothy was active in her church in Postville and a member of
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Dorothy had been a resident at the Aase Haugen Home since Sept. 1, 1998.

Survivors include brothers-in-law Robert and Grace Peterson, Charles and Rose Peterson, and John and Lorraine Peterson; sisters-in-law Doris and Walter Bender, Lucille and Virgil Bender, and Helen and O. Paul Hougen; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothy Peterson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; three brothers, Lloyd, Raymond and Lawrence Bray; and six sisters, Julana McNally, Ruby Ewing, Mary Flack, Beulah Starkey, Mabel Hammond and Myrtle Bertelson.
