Louise Rose Halverson

Louise Rose Halverson, 93, of Decorah, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m., at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kim Smith officiating. Paul Bruvold will be the organist.

Casket bearers will be Denison Kummrow, Michael Halverson, Jon Halverson, Jeanne Kummrow, Randall Halverson and Robert Halverson.

Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 5-8 p.m., at Fjelstul Funeral Home, and Friday after 10 a.m. at the church.

Louise (Swehla) Halverson was born Feb. 20, 1906, west of Spillville, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Novak) Swehla.

She attended grade school in Spillville and graduated from Decorah High School in 1924. She then taught school for four years in Winneshiek County.

On Nov. 21, 1928, she was united in marriage with Leonard Halverson at St. John's Lutheran Church parsonage at Waukon.

Louise was a telephone operator for 14 years at the Nordness Telephone Co. and worked in food service for 11 years at Luther College.

She was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and a circle there. Louise had been a resident at the Aase Haugen Home since September of 1997.

Survivors include three sons, GayIon and Carmen Halverson of Cedar Falls, Randall and Alice Ann Halverson of Barrington, Illinois, and Robert and Beth Halverson of Urbandale; one daughter, Jeanne and Dennis Kummrow of Waukesha, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles and Dora Swehla of Protivin; and two sisters, Clara Swehla and Idella and Joseph Pavlovec, all of Decorah.

Louise Halverson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard, who died Dec. 25, 1971; one daughter, Colleen at the age of 2 in 1932; one son, Russ at the age of 17 in 1954; one sister, Emma Rocksvold; and three brothers, Joseph, Richard and Robert Swehla.
