Bill Schissel

William "Bill" F. Schissel, 65, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, following an extended illness.

The funeral mass was celebrated Friday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, Illinois, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Dale L. Wellman officiating.

Burial was at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military rites were performed.

Bill was born Feb. 22, 1936, in Winneshiek County, the son of Elmer and Beata (Holtey) Schissel. He married Cleone Krambeer Sept. 22, 1952.

He served as a sergeant in the United States Marines during the Korean War.

Bill was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Midwest Operating Engineers, Local 150, Rock Island, until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, Illinois, and Rock Island V.F.W. Post No. 1303.

Survivors include his children, Ann and Mark Hamerlinck, Robert and Valerie Schissel, and Joe and Marcia Schissel, all of Milan, Illinois; seven grandchildren; brothers Donald and Joan Schissel of Ossian, Vern and Sharlene Schissel of Dubuque and Lee Schissel of Knoxville; a sister, Lynn and Steve Wolf of Minneapolis, Minn.; and his former wife, Cleone Schissel, of Milan, Illinois.
