Kay McManus

Kay McManus, 73, died May 19, 2000, after a brief illness, at the University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral services were held at the Angeleno Pasadena Funeral Home in Pasadena, Calif. Interment was in the rose garden of Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Calif.

Kay was the only child of Everett and Margit (Prestgaard) McManus of Chicago, who preceded her in death. Since early childhood, Kay spent every summer vacation in Decorah, visiting at the home of her maternal grandfather, the late
Kristian Prestgaard, and her aunt, the late Gunvor Prestgaard. Her grandfather was the former editor of the Norwegian-American newspaper, the Decorah Posten.

After graduating from a Chicago high school in 1945, Kay lived in the Decorah area for several years. She was employed at the Decorah Bell Telephone Co.

In the 1960's, she moved to California, where she continued to make her home until her death.

Kay enjoyed Decorah and had many friends in the area. Each year she could hardly wait for school to be out so that she could visit Decorah and spend the summer with her beloved "Aunt Gunnie" and "besta-far," who lived on North Street.

As a young girl, Kay had a great fondness for horseback riding and spent many summer days riding her favorite horse in the fields in the west Decorah. In recent years, she enjoyed taking bus tours throughout California and Nevada. She always enjoyed the New Year's Rose Bowl parade and lived close to the parade route in Pasadena.

There are no survivors.
