Richard 'Dick' Rilling

Richard 'Dick' Rilling, 65, of rural Mabel, Minn., died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at his home.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, at 11 a.m., at the Hesper Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating.

Burial was at the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel handled arrangements.

Dick was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Jackson County of Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Beatrice (Nesvik) Rilling. He was baptized Oct. 20, 1934, at Taylor Lutheran Church in Taylor, Wis.

When he was an infant, he moved with his parents to the Canoe/Sattre area until moving to his current home with his parents in 1947.

He was confirmed Nov. 14, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Locust by the Rev. Carl Losen.

On June 29, 1957, he married Ellen Droivold at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia, Minn. They stayed on the farm and have resided there since then.
Dick was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and enjoyed farming, his Charolais cattle, deer hunting, and fishing and family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; a daughter, B.J. and Jerry Berning of Burr Oak; three sons, Rick Rilling of Highlandville, John and Cindy Rilling of Bluffton, and Donnie and Lynne Rilling of Decorah; five grandchildren, Justin. Jessica and Morgan, Joey and Alicia; a step-grandson, James and Tammy Berning; two step-grandchildren, Taylor and Sophie; and a brother, Joel Rilling.

Dick Rilling was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
