Ruth Branae
Ruth N. Branae, 81, of Decorah, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at the Aase Haugen Home.
There was no visitation. The body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, with burial at the Lutheran Cemetery. The Revs. James Glesne and Ole Winter will officiate. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Ruth (Smeby) Branae was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Viroqua, Wis., the daughter of Hartwick and Julia (Sathe) Smeby. She was a 1935 graduate of Luther College.
Ruth was united in marriage with Arthur P. Branae July 21, 1941, in LaCrosse, Wis. They lived in Decorah from 1953-79, then they moved to Arkansas. They moved back to Decorah in September of 1987.
Arthur died Oct. 30, 1987. Ruth moved back to Arkansas after his death.
Ruth was the music teacher at the grade school in Ossian from 1963-79. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church, its women's groups and its church choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis and David D. Harding of St. Louis, Mo., and Ruth B. Wright of Anaheim, Calif.; two grandchildren, Benjamin Harding and Madline Harding; one brother, Carsten Smeby of Irvine, Calif.; and one sister, Helen Monson of St. Cloud, Minn.
Ruth Branae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Connie.
