Cyril Kriener, 77, of rural Fort Atkinson, died Saturday, Nov., 14, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital in New Hampton of an apparent heart attack.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, with the Rev. Raphael Ludwig as celebrant and the Rev. Msgr. Leander Reicks as concelebrant. Arnold Kriener was the lector. The presentation of gifts was made by Margaret and Jordan Woodruff, and Marty Kriener. Acolytes were Andy Schmitt, Raelyn Kriener and Denise Kriener. Ushers were Matt Herold and Myron Milbrandt. The music ministry was provided by Kathy Meyer, organist, and the St. Luke's choir.

Casket bearers were Loren Kriener, Kevin Mracek, Brian Busta, Donald Kriener, Richard Kriener, Arlen Kriener, Kurt Kriener and Paul Kriener.
Honorary bearers were Joshua Mracek, Karen Humpal, Debbie Langreck, Joan Driscoll, Mae Schmitt and Ann Langlinais.

Burial was at the church cemetery. The Chekal Funeral Home of Fort Atkinson handled arrangements.

Cyril was born April 19, 1921, the son of Peter and Mary (Kuennen) Kriener. He attended the St. Luke's School. Farming was his livelihood, which over the years included crops, dairy, beef and swine. In addition, he did custom work and also had a seed corn business.

Some of his happiest times were spent visiting with friends and family, fishing, enjoying polka music, and playing cards. He was a 50-year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church.

On Aug. 16, 1966, he married Anastasia Herold in St. John's Church, Fort Atkinson. To this union were born two children.

Survivors include his wife, Anastasia; his daughter, Margaret and Paul Woodruff of Glenwood; his son, Martin and Stephanie Kriener of Cresco; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Bethany Woodruff.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Ignatius and Pauline Kriener of Fort Atkinson, Eleanor Mracek of Protivin, Francis Kriener of Fort Atkinson, Linus Kriener of Fort Atkinson, Anita and Godlove Busta of Fort Atkinson, Herman and Greta Kriener of SpilIville, Leo and Rosemary Kriener of Fort Atkinson, Peter and Diane Kriener of Fort Atkinson, Conrad and Kathleen Kriener of Protivin, and Jerome and Madonna Kriener of SpilIville.

Cyril Kriener was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; and a brother-in-law, Reuben Mracek.
