James Edward Viste, 55, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at 11 a.m., at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. Kim Smith officiating.
Paul Bruvold was the organist. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace," "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less."
Casket bearers were Paul Estrem, Ed Foster, John Rima, Chris Storlie, Llewellyn Storlie and Denny Wall.
Honorary bearers were Terry Stone, all the other cousins of James, and his friends at Deco Products.
Burial was at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.
James was born June 29, 1944, at Decorah, the son of Howard and Inez (Peterson) Viste. He was baptized June 30, 1944. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1963 and from Luther College in 1968.
James was united in marriage with Susan Wielebski March 21, 1981, at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.
James was controller at Deco Products in Decorah, where he worked for over 30 years.
He was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, and the Fox & Coon Club. His hobbies and interests included pheasant hunting, trap shooting, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; one son, Joey, at home; his parents, Howard and Inez Viste of Decorah; one sister, Joan and Terry Stone of Decorah; and one niece, Statia Halverson of Decorah.
James Viste was preceded in death by one nephew, Nathan Halverson.
