Grant I. Grinna, 89, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m., at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Connie Bolson was the organist. lona Crawford sang "Den Store Hvide Flok." Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less."

Casket bearers were Darrell Berge, Mark Berge, Gary Grinna, John Grinna, Tom Grinna, Allen Ludeking, David Ludeking and Christopher Wilkins.

Honorary bearers were Duane and Linda Flatland, Jack and Sally Hagensick, Robert and Collen Nash, Dale and Sunny Nimrod, Robert H. and Leona Rosendahl, Robert D. and Wanita Ruen, Richard and Ethel Stuckman, and Walter and Lorraine Teslow.

Burial was at the Glenwood South Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Grant was born Nov. 25, 1909, at the home of his parents, Gustav and Thea (Benson) Grinna, in Frankville Township of Winneshiek County.

He was baptized Dec. 25, 1909, and confirmed March 30, 1924, both at Glenwood Lutheran Church. He received his education at the Pagin
School, a rural school in Frankville Township.

Grant was married to Stella Berge May 24, 1941, at Glenwood Lutheran Church.

He farmed on his home family farm, a "century" farm called the Glengate farm. It included both general farming and a dairy operation with registered Holsteins.

The couple retired and moved to Decorah in 1981.

Grant was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his church and was quite active in it. He served on Council, Brotherhood, the New Building Committee, and he enjoyed hosting the lutefisk supper at the church.

Grant had been a resident at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home since June 16, 1997. Stella also is a resident there.

Survivors include his wife, Stella; two brothers, Marlin and Vivian Grinna of Decorah, and Alden and Esther Grinna of Decorah; and one sister, Helen Ruen of Decorah.

Their nieces and nephews were very important to the couple. Grant also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Grant Grinna was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Julian and Vernon.
