Martha Breitsprecher, 84, of Canton, Minn., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating. Burial will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 4-8 p.m., at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, Minn., and one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

Martha (Tinderholt) Breitsprecher was born Dec. 29, 1914, in Estherville, the daughter of Martin and Bertha (Stein) Tinderholt. She was baptized there in 1915 and later moved with her family to the Tinderholt farm in rural Ossian.
She was confirmed at the Stavanger Lutheran Church in Ossian and graduated from the Ossian High School in 1932.

On June 8, 1933, she married Raymond Breitsprecher at the Stavanger Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Ossian area until moving to the Canton, Minn., area in 1940. They farmed there until 1967, when they retired and moved into Canton.

Martha was an active member of Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, where she taught Sunday School and was the organist for many years. She gave piano and organ lessons to many area young people, enjoyed playing cards, and was a volunteer at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel and for SEMCAC.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Breitsprecher of Cresco, Kenneth and Donna Breitsprecher of Rushford, Minn., and Alan and Rose Breitsprecher of Canton, Minn.; one daughter, DiAnn and Eugene Burri of Rochester, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Oakland of Clermont; a brother, Francis Tinderholt of Mabel, Minn.; and special friends Gynther Flattum of Lanesboro, Minn., and Parnell and Nora Hageman of Canton, Minn.

Martha Breitsprecher was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, who died Oct. 13, 1988; one son, James; a granddaughter and a grandson; and three sisters, Cora Kapell, Selma Martin and Elsie Tangen.
