17 Year Old Youth Injured Fatally In Car Mishap Sunday
Curtis Lundt, 17, son of Mrs. Lydia Lundt, who lives near Frankville, died about 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at a Rochester hospital from injuries he received in an automobile accident south of Luana Sunday afternoon.
Lundt, one of three youths riding on a stripped down farm truck, was thrown into the roadway about 4:45 p.m. Sunday on a country road three miles southwest of Luana when a tire blew out. He was rushed to Postville Hospital for treatment and was transferred to Rochester early Tuesday morning when his condition failed to improve. Death came shortly after his arrival at Rochester. He was suffering from head injuries.
A 1936 Chevrolet homemade truck with the body cut off was the accident vehicle. The stripped vehicle was driven by Robert Deering, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Deering of Clermont, according to Partolman Robert Janett, who investigated.
A back tire blew out as the youths were driving north on a country road. The blowout threw the vehicle toward the left ditch where it was brought back onto the road and then overturned once.
Deering and Donald Anderson, 16, also a passenger, were thrown out on the bank of the ditch and were not seriously injured. Lundt was thrown into the roadway apparently striking his head.
Funeral services for Curtis Lundt will be held Friday at the Ludlow church, 2:00 p.m.
