Klatt, Harold Albert -- 1917 - 1994

Harold Albert Klatt was born on September 14, 1917 to Julius and Bertha (Streich) Klatt in New Hampton, Iowa. He died on Wednesday, June 29, 1994 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. He was 76 years old.

He was united in marriage to Elaine Marie Kluss on September 21, 1940, in Castalia, Iowa.

After their marriage, he was inducted in the United States Navy, serving in the "Seabeas" overseas during WWII in the New Heberdies Islands in the Pacific. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Cresco where he worked at the Farm Implement Company until 1954, when he moved to Clear Lake, working as a sales representative for Geihl Implement and also for Heimbuch Implement. He also worked as a branch manager for the Lindsey Brothers in Mason City.

Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and the 5th Ave. South Birthday Club, both in Clear Lake. He was a member of the San Juan Marne VFW Post 733 in Mason City. He was also a very artistic person, doing several murals of famous people which won blue ribbons at state and county fairs.

Survivors include one son, John Klatt of Cottage Grove; a daughter, Nancy (Mrs. Charles Moritz) of Urbandale; one sister, Esther Peterson of Sioux City; a brother, Elmer (Delia) Klatt of Cresco; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, who died in 1987, his parents and a sister, Ema Conkel.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, 1994 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors by the San Juan Marne VFW Post 733 in Mason City.
