Funeral services were held Monday, November 29, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia for John Kluss, who died at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville following a stroke on Saturday, November 27. The Rev. Walter Pfeffer, pastor of Zion Lutheran, was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Bloomfield cemetery, Castalia.

John Kluss, the son of August Kluss and Katherine Koevenig Kluss, was born November 29, 1888 at Postville. He passed away Saturday, November 27, 1:40 a.m., at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 29 days. He suffered a stroke on November 25 and was hospitalized.

On February 10, 1915 he was married to Amy Meyer at the bride's home near Castalia. To this union was born one daughter, Elaine, Mrs. Harold Klatt, of Clear Lake.

John Kluss attended school at Postville. After marriage, the couple made their home at Postville for seven years then moved to a farm near Castalia. He moved to Castalia in 1922 where he spent the remainder of his life as a carpenter, painter and interior decorator. He served a number of years on the town council.

He was baptized and confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and his parents. Survivors include his wife, his daughter, Mrs. Klatt; a brother, Verni Kluss of Mason City; one granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Moritz of Des Moines; a grandson, John Klatt; and several nieces and nephews.
