Inger Kathryn Elizabeth Hoyme
Kathryn Hoyme, age 87, of Decorah died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 6 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with Rev. Gary K. Lee officiating. Interment was in Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, rural Decorah. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah assisted the family.
Inger Kathryn Elizabeth (Clement) Hoyme was born January 5, 1922, the daughter of Edgar and Clara (Wangsness) Clement, on the family farm near Decorah. Kathryn attended Winneshiek County rural schools and graduated from Decorah High School in 1940. She married Norman Hoyme May 18, 1944 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. She was a farm mother and wife and worked at Luther College in food service and then at DECO for many years, retiring in 1988. Kathryn was a member of the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.
Kathryn's survivors include her son, Charles (Martha) Hoyme of Flower Mound, TX; and her daughter, Louise (Gordon) Ellingson of Waukon; nine grandchildren, Scott (Malissa) Hoyme, Denise (Bob) Robertson, Shaun (Cindy) Hoyme, Bryan (Mary) Hoyme, Elizabeth (Josh) Roe, Russell (Annette) Ellingson, Dr. Todd (Rachel) Ellingson, Cheryl (Dave) Fetketter, and Laura (Dr. Mark) Smith; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lilah Hughes of Luana; and a sister-in-law, Esther Hegg of Decorah.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Clara (Wangsness) Clement; her husband, Norman, in 1985; one son, Nordean, September 3, 1994; and two brothers, Willard and Edward Clement.
Casketbearers were Bryan Hoyme, Shaun Hoyme, Russ Ellingson, Todd Ellingson, Chris Hoyme and Wayne Clement.
