John H. Pankow
John H. Pankow, 77, of Decorah, died March 31 at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse. A scripture service was conducted April 2 at Steine Funeral Home, Decorah and the funeral was at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Decorah, Wednesday morning. Father E. W. Lechtenberg conducted the funeral.
Burial was in St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman Pankow, Jr.(sic), Wade Pankow, Blaine Whalen, Harlan Palmer, Wayne Leidahl and Marvin Pankow.
He was born in Frankville Township, Winneshiek County on March 17, 1908, the son of Herman and Louise (Gipp) Pankow. He attended rural schools in Winneshiek County.
He was married April 27, 1929 to Clara Mae Einck at Argo, IL. They had 2 children: Norman D. Pankow, Sr. (sic), of Postville and Gerald Dean Pankow of Williamsburg, MI.
He was a farmer and also worked for Wapsie Produce, Bruening Rock Quarry and A. E. Roverud and Ronan Brothers.
Survivors include sons Norman, Jr. (sic) and Gerald, his brothers, Carl and Ray of Decorah, 1 sister, Minnie (Mrs. Guy Leidahl) of Decorah, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death in 1963 by his wife, his daughter-in-law, Delores Pankow, 3 sisters, Irene, Margaret and Lydia.
