Norman Dwayne Pankow

Norman Dwayne Pankow, son of John Herman and Clara Mae (Einck) Pankow, was born August 26, 1934, at Decorah, Iowa. He died at his home on Tuesday, November 29, 1994. He was 60 years old.

He was baptized in 1934 in St. Benedicts at Decorah. His First Communion was in 1942 and he was confirmed in 1946 in St. Benedict Church at Decorah. Norman attended the Decorah Schools.

On December 30, 1954, he was married to Patricia Ann Sphar in St. Benedict Church at Decorah. To this union three children were born.

Norman was employed by Reardon's at Decorah where he worked in the plant and drove a truck, and also at Bucheit's in Calmar. He was also employed by Decorah Manufacturing and Ronan Brothers in Decorah. For the last 22 years he was employed by Iowa Turkey Products in Postville. Norman was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville and the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to his family and his work. Norman loved the outdoors and often went camping, fishing and loved to feed and watch birds. He also liked to do outdoor grilling and his specialty was turkey.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Pankow. Surviving is his wife, Pat, two sons, Norman D. Pankow, Jr., of Denver and Kenneth (Brenda)Pankow, of Radcliffe, Iowa, a daughter, Katherine (Blaine) Whalen, of Harmony, Minn., ten grandchildren, a brother, Gerald (Carol) Pankow, of Traverse City, Mich., and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Sphar of Ridgeway, Iowa.

A funeral Mass was held Friday, December 2, 1994 in St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. Casket bearers were Shannon Onsager, Jeremy Pankow, Corey, Joshua and Lindsey Whalen and Arlin Schager. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia, Iowa.
