Caroline "Lena" Perry
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, for Caroline (Lena) Perry, who died Wednesday, June 1 in the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rev. Perry L. Brown officiated.
Born May 23, 1886 in Bloomfield Township, she was the daughter of Karl and Wilhemina Sass Schara. She was baptized by Pastor E. Bockelman in Postville, confirmed by Pastor John Apple, Luana, and had been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, and its women's organizations and was presently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. She was also a charter member of the Embroidery club in Castalia.
September 15, 1908 she was married to Louis Kamp and the couple was engaged in farming until his death November 8, 1918. They were the parents of four children: Vernon of Castalia and Verla Jean Boxrude of Cedar Rapids, a son who died in infancy and son Louis Kamp of Madison, Wisconsin, who has preceded her in death.
October 9, 1924 she was married to Eugene Perry who died November 29, 1940. They lived in and around the Castalia area. The past 15 years, she had resided in Postville, though finally giving up her apartment due to illness. She had been in the extended care ward at the Postville hospital for the past 4½ months.
Survivors also include five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Leonard (Anna) Casten of Postville; one brother, Albert Schara, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, nieces and nephews.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
