Vernon L. Perry
Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home here on Monday for Vernon L. Perry, 59, who passed away at the Decorah Hospital on Friday. The rites were in charge of Rev. H. C. Snow, pastor of the Castalia E. U. B. Church.
Vernon L. Perry was born on a farm near Castalia on November 26, 1892. He was the only child of Eugene J. and Libbie Lambert Perry. He passed away at the Decorah Hospital on January 18, 1952 at the age of 59 years, one month, and 23 days.
His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Castalia with the exception of one winter which he spent with his parents in Long Beach, California.
He was preceded in death by his mother, who passed away on September 3, 1914 and by his father who passed away November 29, 1940. After the death of his parents, his life was lonely, for most of the time he lived alone. He liked to read and much of his time was occupied in that way. He liked especially books of travel and history.
His death followed a period of declining health which lasted about a year.
Surviving are two aunts, Alma Perry of Castalia, and May Lambert of West Union, a stepmother, Mrs. Lena Perry of Castalia, and a number of cousins.
