Harley Alvin Thompson
Harley Alvin Thompson was born January 10, 1924, in Fayette County near Clermont, Iowa, to Henry T. and Anna Marie (Lubke) Thompson. He passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in the Winneshiek Medical Center at Decorah, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 6 days.
He was baptized in the West Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church and attended the rural schools near his home.
On July 30, 1948 Harley was married to Ellen Marie Svendsen in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. To this union a daughter, Jean Frances and a son, Wayne, was born. Jean died shortly after birth.
Harley farmed all of his life and also drove a truck for a local business. He loved to fish and hunt and go snowmobiling. Harley will be remembered for his wit and dry sense of humor.
Harley was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.He is survived by his son, Wayne of Winder, Georgia, a granddaughter Amy (Ron) Rudnicki, Decorah, IA, two great grandchildren, Alexis and Jacob Rudnicki, two sisters, Clarian (Dean) Gunderson, Postville and Lavanda Richert, Decorah, a brother-in-law, John Svendsen, Castalia, sisters-in-law, Mildred Breitsprecher, Ossian, Vernice Svendsen, Lawler, IA, Ramona Svendsen, Decorah, Mary Svendsen, Castalia, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ellen, a daughter, Jean Frances and a sister, Frances Thompson.
Funeral Services ere held Friday, December 19, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, in Castalia, Iowa. The Rev. Dave Lenth officiated.
Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa. Schutte Funeral Home of Postville is in charge of arrangements.
