Peter Ryan Died Thursday

Peter Ryan, well known in Waukon, died at this home in Pleasant township, Winneshiek county, last Thursday at the age of 58 years. He was born at Cherry Valley, Illinois, November 10, 1851, and came with this parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Ryan to Winneshiek county in 1854, and was married in 1876. He is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter, James of Bridgewater, South Dakota, Edward, Joseph and Leonard and Miss Kathryn at home. Besides these several sisters and a brother mourn his death and a host of friends of the family join in mourning for the deceased.

About eight months ago Mr. Ryan’s health began to fail and he consulted specialists in LaCrosse and later sought an examination by the Drs. Mayo who pronounced his ailment cancer of the stomach and was given no encouragement.

His funeral was held at the West Ridge Catholic church last Saturday which was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. We are told that over a hundred teams formed in the funeral cortege.

And in this connection we want to say that no one could ask for a better friend than the late Peter Ryan, to which many in Waukon will readily bear witness.
