Arden Anderson

Arden Anderson, age 69, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a short illness. Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, at Madison Lutheran Church, Decorah, with Pastors Philip Olson and Ginny Olson officiating. Interment was in Madison Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa. Graveside military rites were given by Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post #163, Helof-Holm VFW Post #1977, and Hamre-Giesen DAV Chapter #8. Arrangements were by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah.

Arden John Anderson was born September 12, 1935, the son of Leon Orlando and Tinka Christine (Haaland) Anderson in Madison Township. He attended country school in Madison Township and Decorah Community Schools. Arden served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Decorah and farmed with his father.

Arden married Sharon Iverson August 6, 1960, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Madison Township and Arden sold Vigortone Feeds. He retired from farming in 1990, but continued to keep busy by working at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, Homecare Helping Hands, and Anderson Auto. He liked to stay busy and to be social, but most of all he loved his three sons and his grandchildren. Arden was a member of the Madison Lutheran Church and the Helof-Holm VFW Chapter #1977.

Arden’s survivors include his wife, Sharon Anderson of Decorah; three sons, John (Pam) Anderson of Decorah, Lee (Marilyn) Anderson of Waukon, and Troy (fiancee Leah Hageman) Anderson of Ridgeway; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon, Dalton, and Jaden Anderson, Annika and Betsy Anderson, and Tye Anderson; three sisters, Darla (Gerald) Bakken of Decorah, Sylvie (Herb) Lundeen of Bloomington, Minn., and Rosemary (Mike) Mehl of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one brother, Terry (Rose) Anderson of Cameron, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Iverson of Decorah; an aunt, Doris Anderson of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Alice Iverson of Decorah, Karen (Dave) Frye of Marion, Iowa, and Arlene (Don) Roney of Loveland, Colo.

Arden was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Tinka Anderson; his father-in-law, Irvin LeRoy Iverson; one brother-in-law, Donald Iverson; one sister-in-law, Alice Iverson; and one great-nephew, Alan Fadness.

Honorary casketbearers were Alex and Shirley Schmitt, Phil and Ellen Ryan, Jerry and Bev McEaney, Bob and Kathy McIntyre, Dick and Joyce Stork, Alan and Carrie McIntyre, LaVonne and Clair Borseth, Slim and Chuckie Gilbertson, John and Barb Headington, Dave Malek and Joyce Langreck, Roger and Carmen Hovden, Floyd and Alberta Friederich, and Arnie and Janet Fortman. Casketbearers were Chad Mehl, Jason Mehl, Joel Graves, Greg Iverson, Gary Bakken, Kerry Langreck, Kraig Langreck, and Brandon Anderson.
