Jerry Anderson

Funeral services for Jerry Anderson were held Friday, April 1, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ossian Lutheran Church at Ossian, Iowa. The Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiated. The organist was Elaine Knutson. Casket Bearers were: Brian Manning, Ron Anderson, Bob Anderson, Rick Anderson, Duane Hermen, Gerald Blumhagen, and Honorary Casket Bearers were: Virgil Johanningmeier, Sandy Schott, Merle Monroe. Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery, rural, Castalia, Iowa. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Anderson was born December 25, 1933, to Golda Marie (Harvey) Anderson and Earl Anderson, on a farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. He passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, in the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. He had reached the age of 71 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

He was baptized in the Evangelical United Brethren Church (United Methodist Church) in Castalia, Iowa. He attended the Castalia School and graduated from Postville High School in 1951.

On August 2, 1959 Jerry was married to Carol Sue Nickels in the Methodist Church at Elgin, Iowa. To this union five children were born. They began their married life in Gunder, where they lived for one year. The couple then moved to Clermont and stayed for four years. Jerry and Carol moved to the family farm in Bloomfield Township, near Castalia, where they presently live. Jerry farmed for part of his life and was an independent trucker, hauling grain to the river. He enjoyed his family and friends with whom he played cards. Jerry was an avid fisherman, and spent time outdoors with the multitude of animals that he would bring home, such as raccoons and peacocks. He had his favorite dogs as well and loved to drive his draft horses around the farm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Rodney Anderson and his wife, Lucille, and a grandson, Shawn Anderson.

Surviving is his wife, Carol, five children, Stacey Anderson and JaDene (Hugh) Wegner, all of Juneau, AK, Lori Kuehl, Giard, IA, Scott Anderson, Castalia, and Lisa Anderson, Ossian, IA; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a brother, William "Bill" (Linda) Anderson, Postville.
