Ella Anna Aschim

Ella A. Aschim, 75, of Waukon, died May 20, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held May 23 at Frankville Presbyterian Church in Frankville with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery.

Ella Anna Aschim was born May 19, 1925, in Minot, ND, the daughter of George and Anna Magdelina (Schnabel) Franzwa. She moved to St. Paul, MN, with her family at the age of three, where she graduated from Hayden Heights High School.

In 1946, she married James Kneeskern and lived in several places following his military career. After their divorce in 1958, she returned to St. Paul and in 1960, she moved to Frankville.

On Sept. 1, 1960, she married Tillman Aschim at the Frankville Presbyterian Church. She remained an active member and served as choir director for several years. Ella operated a seamstress business out of her home for 25 years. She and Tillman also operated “Aschim’s Place,” a cafe and tavern in Frankville, from 1976 until 1979. Ella enjoyed sewing, embroidery, quilting, gardening, traveling, music, playing the piano, dancing, bowling, playing cards and games and working crossword puzzles.

Ella is preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Barbara Larson. Survivors include her husband, Tillman, of Waukon; three daughters, Diane (John) Liepa, Indianola, Linda (Edward) Boser, Waukon, and Laura (Lowell) Staake, Frankville; five step-daughters, Janice Henry, Wichita, KS, Sandy Kennard, Des Moines, Millie (David) Williams, Cutbank, WA, Rose (Steve) Gilbert, Weldon, and Nancy Andrews of Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Laura (Walt) Stoltzman, Hugo, MN, and Martha (Reuben) Saylor, Freeman, SD; a brother, Larry (Delores) Franzwa, St. Paul, MN; 11 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and many step great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were John and Torey Liepa, Lowell Staake, and Melvin, Timothy and David Stoltzman.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
