TILLMAN JEROME ASCHIM

Tillman J. Aschim, 82, of Waukon, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 3, at 1:30 p.m. at Frankville Presbyterian Church in Frankville, IA, with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial was in Frankville Cemetery.

Tillman Jerome Aschim was born November 1, 1918 in Preston, MN, the son of Henry and Matilda (Jorgenson) Aschim. He attended Harmony Elementary School. Before going to the service he was a farm hand. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 seeing duty in Germany.

On December 18, 1940 he married Lois Mecker at the Frankville Presbyterian Church. They lived in Marshalltown, IA, for a short time before moving to Frankville. They were married until 1958.

On September 1, 1960 he married Ella (Franzwa) Kneeskern at the Frankville Presbyterian Church.

Following his US Army service he had a milk route which he kept up until 1976. He and Ella then purchased a bar and grill in Frankville which they operated until 1979. After the sale of the bar he worked for the Luana creamery and drove school bus for Postville schools. He was a member and former Elder of Frankville Presbyterian Church. He also served as a janitor for several years at the church. Tillman enjoyed playing cards and pool and liked to go fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ella; a daughter, Janice Henry; a step-daughter, Barbara Larson.

Survivors include 5 daughters, Millie (David) Williams of Greenbank, WA, Sandy Kennard of West Des Moines, IA, Rose (Steve) Gilbert of Weldon, IA, Nancy (Mark) Andrews of Langley, B.C., Canada, and Laura (Lowell) Staake of Frankville, IA; 2 step-daughters, Dianne (John) Liepa of Indianola, IA and Linda (Ed) Boser of Truth or Consequences, NM; 19 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. He also had 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Casketbearers were John and Torey Liepa, Lowell Staake, Tim Underwood, Steve and Steven Gilbert.
