Daniel N. Russett

Funeral services for Daniel Russett were held in the South Winneshiek Community School auditorium, Calmar, Thursday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Claude Jones and the Rev. Dick Harberts sharing in the service. Mr. Russett died suddenly on Monday, June 3 in the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah. Interment was in the Frankville Cemetery.

Daniel N. Russett was born May 24, 1908, the son of Ole and Agatha Sjoboen Russett, in Winneshiek County. He attended school in Frankville and was baptized in the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1922.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Kneeskern July 9 (sic), 1929 in Cedar Rapids. They became parents of ten children.

The couple made their home in Frankville, where he was an interior decorator for a number of years. In 1943 they moved to Calmar where he spent 20 years at trucking, then worked as custodian at the South Winneshiek schools.

Mr. Russett was a member of the United Methodist Church, Calmar, serving in various official capacities. He was a member of the Calmar Lion's Club and a life member of the Custodial Association.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Edgar and one sister, Jennie, and an infant son, Merlyn.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; nine children: Randal of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Alan of Anamosa; Mrs. John (Janice) Schultz of Postville; Mrs. Gerald (Dolores) Stephan of Altura, Minnesota; Keith of Calmar; Mrs. Gary (Marilyn) Breitsprecher of Castalia; Mrs. Curtis (Beverly) Ruston of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Allen (Kathleen) Gerber of St. Paul, Minnesota; 3 brothers, Clarence of Waukon, Oscar of Monona and Olaf of Ulysses, Kansas and two sisters, Grace Russett of Postville and Mrs. Lloyd (Agnes) Blumhagen of Castalia. There are 29 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
