Grace Emilie Russett

Grace Emilie Russett, daughter of Ole and Agatha (Sjoboen) Russett was born September 1, 1905 on a farm in Winneshiek County, near Decorah, Iowa. She died Tuesday, September 6, 1994 in St. Mary's Hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. She was 89 years old.

Grace was baptized and confirmed in the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church at rural Decorah. She attended the Bloomfield Township School No. 5.

She lived at home for a short time and then traveled to Minneapolis where she worked for a family, caring for their children and home for ten years. Grace returned to Postville and was employed by Mrs. Louis Hill for 35 years. She sewed her own clothes and was a talented tatter. She also loved flowers. Grace was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and the Women of the ELCA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Jennie Russett and five brothers, Edgar, Clarence, Oscar, Daniel, and Olaf Russett.

She is survived by her sister, Agnes Blumhagen of Castalia, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Loraine Russett of Waukon and Mae Russett of Ulysses, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 9, 1994 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. The Reverend H. W. Wolfgram officiated. Casketbearers were: Lawrence, Bob, Allan, Faye and Keith Russett and Gerald Blumhagen. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.
