Harvey Reinhardt

Funeral services for Harvey O. Reinhardt were held Tuesday, November 25, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. Susan Friedrich, Associate in Ministry officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.

Harvey Otto Reinhardt, the son of Frank and Claudina (Busacker) Reinhardt, was born January 29, 1916, on a farm in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, November 22, 1997, in Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He had reached the age of 81 years, nine months and 23 days.

He was baptized May 26, 1916 by the Rev. Schmidt and confirmed August 11, 1929 by the Rev. Fink, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Harvey attended the Grand Meadow School near his home farm. On October 12, 1940 Harvey was married to Frances Louise Schweinefus. One daughter, Janice, was born to this union. Harvey farmed all of his life.

Frances died October 28, 1975. Following her death, Harvey was married to Vila Mae (Monroe) Schultz on November 10, 1978 in St. Paul Lutheran in Postville, Iowa, by the Reverends David Nelson and Duane Schroeder. The couple made their home in Castalia.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; and three brothers, Arnold, Lorence and Clarence Reinhardt.

Surviving is his wife, Vila Mae; a daughter, Janice Folstad of Castalia; a step-daughter, Linda Schultz of Castalia; one brother, Harlan Reinhardt and wife, Edna of Postville and many nieces and nephews.

Harvey was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. He served as a Deacon and for may years tolled the church bell when there was death in the congregation. He served on the Castalia Fire Department for 25 years and had been a member of the City Council. Harvey was very active in the Castalia Tractor Days, and he and Vila Mae had been the Grand Marshals in 1994.

Harvey had a collection of John Deere tractors and other tractor memorabilia which he enjoyed. He also liked to travel.

The casketbearers were: Mike Reinhardt, Greg Larkin, Kevin Wiltger, Kale Monroe, Darin Monroe, Joel Monroe, Brett Willey and Brock Willey.
