Irene Tollefsrud

Irene Adelia Tollefsrud, age 88, of Spring Grove, MN passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Spring Grove, with Pastor Allen Hermeier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

Irene was born September 14, 1918 in Spring Grove to Clarence and Elma (Sundet) Melbostad. She was baptized and confirmed at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1936.

November 8, 1942 she married James Gilman Tollefsrud at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church. The couple farmed for most of their married life in Winneshiek County and moved to Decorah in 1978. Gilman preceded Irene in death July 24, 1999.

Irene became a resident of Tweeten Health Services September 25, 2001. She was a lifelong member of Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church and the Sarah circle. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Jim (Lois) Tollefsrud of Spring Grove; four daughters, Shirley (Ron) Bigler of Decorah, Cathy (Greg) Mohwinkle of Eitzen, MN, Julie (Rich) Lukes of Calmar, and Cindy (Steve) Palmer of Moline, IL; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen Melbostad of Spring Grove; and a special cousin, Dorothy Olson of Harpers Ferry.

In addition to her husband Gilman and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Melbostad.
