RITES HELD FOR OSSIAN MAN
1924--1982
Ossian(Special) services were held for Norman Elmer Svendsen,58 of rural Ossian,on Monday November 28, 1:30 P.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.
Mr. Svendsen died November 26 in Decorah following a lingering illness.Services were conducted by the Rev. Howard Wolfgram.Organist was Mrs. Gerald Hager, who accompanied congregational singing.Selections included "Beautiful Savior," " How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus".
Pallbearers were Gary Breitsprecher,Kenneth Zweibahmer,Wayne Thompson,Leo Bachelder,Lee Preuss and Patrick Mc Nally.Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Norman Elmer Svendsen was born Aug, 17,1924 a son of the late Johannes and Anna(Mikkelson)Svendsen at the home farm near Castalia.He was baptized and confirmed at the Stavanger Lutheran Church,rural Ossian, and received an education by attending Winneshiek County schools.
On May 19, 1945, he married Miss. Ramona Preuss of Postville in St Paul Lutheran Church.He worked in the dairy industry as a dairy farmer, Carnation Milk Plant employee at Castalia 15 years and then was a fieldman for MVPS/SWISS Valley FARMS,Inc of Luana.He also was self-employed as a milk hauler for SWISS VALLEY FARMS for 13 years.
Survivors are his wife:five daughters,Dirinda Van Whey of Ossian,Anna(Mrs.David Dowell) of Donnellson,Janell(Mrs. Marc Davis) of Plymouth,Connie( Mrs. David Rosendahl) of Ventura and Judith(Mrs. Alan Kuboushek): eight grandsons;three granddaughters;three brothers,Reuben Svendsen of Las Vegas,Nev.,Arthur Svendsen and John Svendsen,both of Castalia; three sisters,Mildred Breitsprecher and Ellen(Mrs. Harley Thompson) both of Ossian and Arlette(Mrs. Harry Bachelder of Castalia.
