Orville Johnson

Funeral services for Orville Johnson were held Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with Rev. Gene Hermeier officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the church cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Orville Milton Johnson was born May 27, 1938, to Oliver M. and Helen Gladys (Jaastad) Johnson, in Decorah, Iowa. He passed away at his home on Ludlow Road, north of Postville, at age 67.

Orville was baptized and confirmed at the Hauge Lutheran Church, which was just across the field from where he lived with his parents. He graduated from Decorah High School. Orville entered the United States Navy in 1957 and served for four years, including duty on the USS Lexington.

Orville was married to Leura Ann Johnson. To this union four children were born. He worked for the Forest Service in Florida. Later, he owned and operated his own welding shop and was employed at Camcar in Decorah.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Johnson of Auburndale, Fla.; two sons, Michael (Judy) Johnson of Auburndale and Wesley Johnson of Decorah; two daughters, Michelle (Randy) Dreier of Postville and Deborah (Vic) Ryan of Sedgwick, Kansas; his mother, Helen Gladys (Jaastad) Johnson of Elma, Iowa; three sisters, Vivian Meyer of Battle Ground, Wash., Frances Stoskopf of Decorah, and Sharon Haugen of Ft. Meyers, Fla. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Ben Johnson (fiancé Leann Bigler), Caleb Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Rebekah Johnson, Melissa Hageman, Bryan Hageman, Natalie Dreier, Brady Dreier, Shawn Henry, Cody Ollendieck, Megan Ollendieck, Ashleigh Ollendieck, and Damien and Dylan Johnson, and one great-granddaughter, Abriana Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Johnson and a grandson, Elijah Johnson.
