Clara Helen Kobriger, 77, of rural Ossian died early Saturday morning, October 9, 1993, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah, IA. She was born to Henry J. and Catherine (Hemesath) Uhlenhake in rural Ossian, Military Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa on July 8, 1916.
She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and obtained an education at De Sales School. On June 18, 1935, she was united in marriage to Frank Philip Kobriger at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church by the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. M.J. Thiltgen and to this union seven children were born. Frank and Clara farmed east of Ossian, first residing in Bloomfield Township and then later moving to the Uhlenhake farm east of Ossian, where Clara was born and raised. Here, she resided until the time of her death.
Clara was a lifetime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, an Honorary Member of its Rosary Society, a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #983 of Ossian, and a member of the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau and the Ossian Senior Citizen’s Club. As an Avon Sales Representative since December 13, 1976, she also attained President’s Club Recognition of the Mrs. Albee award each year. She enjoyed farming as a dairywoman and swine herdsperson also. Her talents also showed in the numerous flower gardens she created in her house yard.
Survivors include four sons; Harold Kobriger and his wife, JoAnn of Forest City, IA, Norman Kobriger and his wife, Anne of Oklahoma City, OK, Kenneth Kobriger and his wife, Marilyn of Owatanna, MN, and Karl Kobriger of Ossian, IA, and three daughters; DiAnn and her husband, Kenneth Evenson of West Union, IA, Karen and her husband, Neal Heckmann of Oelwein, IA, and Gladys and her husband, Fred Wilker of Postville, IA.
Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; James Kobriger, Harold Kobriger Jr., Scott Heckman, Kevin Heckman, Doug Heckman, Jason Kobriger, Brian Wilker, Bradley Wilker, Brent Wilker, Joshua Kobriger, Gary Kobriger, Janice Harvey, Kathy Massman, Debbie Brown, Kris Evenson, April Heckman, Connie Kobriger, Tanda Kobriger, Heidi Kobriger, Debra Kobriger and Jody Kobriger, and 15 great-grandchildren; Lacey Kobriger, Ashlea Kobriger, Adam Kobriger, Heather Jaques, Tiffany Jaques, Michelle Kobriger, Michael Kobriger, Julie Kobriger, Ashley Sue Schroader, Randy Schroader, Christopher Massman, Jennifer Massman, Wendy Brown, Spring Joy Heckmann, and two sisters-in-law; Marie Lechtenberg of Mesa, AZ and Dorothy Uhlenhake of Madison, WI.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Frank, on July 16, 1983, her granddaughter, Faith Ann Kobriger, in 1978, her great-granddaughter, Mary Massman, in 1975, her two sisters, Rose Eimers on June 5, 1985 and Marie Uhlenhake on February 9, 1981, and her brother, Henry (Heine) Uhlenhake Jr., on August 31, 1955.
