PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

He was born in Hemmingford Province, Quebec, Canada in 1833. In 1859 he came to Winneshiek county and settled in Burr Oak township. In 1875 he built a find brick house on his farm in Hesper township, his farm being located on the township line. He owned land in both Burr Oak and Hesper townships. He turned his attention to stock raising, among which he had Kentucky thoroughbred and Norman horses, also a find drove of Cotswold and Leicester sheep. He was united in marriage to Charity E. Wilsie in 1856, and they were given four children: Clara, who married George P. Bents; Julie, the wife of Joseph Lindsay; Elsie, Mrs. A. O. Porter and Weston.
