PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941
Henry Quinnel and his wife Betsey were born in Norway. Henry was born in Trondheim, the son of Oscar and Valborg Quinnel. He came with his parents to America when twelve years of age. Betsey was born in Roras, Norway, the daughter of Andrew and Isabel Torvalson. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of six years. Henry Quinnel and Betsey Torvalson were married when they were quite young and they settled in Allamakee county. About 1866 they took up a claim in Hesper township, where they lived for thirty years. Mr. Quinnel died when a young man, leaving eight children. Mrs. E. J. Wold lives at Hesper and Henretta, Mrs. Otto Evenson, lives at Spring Grove, they being the only survivors of the family.
