PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

Knute Rolfshus was born in Halingdahl, Norway, April 24, 1839, the oldest of a family of five children. In the year 1860 he married Rognild Olson of Valdras, Norway. Together they migrated to America in 1861 and came directly to Hesper, where he worked as a laborer. In a short time he bought a farm in the northeast part of Section 9, where he spent all his life. His wife passed away in 1882 and left seven children: Annie Lerol, who now lives near Whalen, Minn.; Anthony, of Harwick, Minn.; Henry of Duluth, Minn.; Carl, of Redwing, Minn.; and Conrad, of Lanesboro; a daughter and a son died before their mother. In the year 1886 the pioneer married Carrie Arneson of Fargo, N. D., and they became the parents of five children. Mr. Rolfshus was a very Christian man and took a prominent part in all church activities. He worked hard during his life to bring his family the good things of life.
