PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

John Steno, a native of Aalen, Norway, was born April 1, 1837. While still in his native land he married. His wife passed away a short time later, leaving one son, John. In 1866, near Roras, Trondhjem, Norway, he married Gertrude Stene. The following year they came to America. Upon their arrival in the United States they came directly to Winneshiek county, settling in Hesper township, where they lived all their lives. This couple had the pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding. They were parents of three children, and were members of the Lutheran church of Hesper.
