PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

David Welch came to the United States in the fall of 1850. For a few years he resided in the eastern states and in Wisconsin. He then moved to Fillmore county in the year 1861, which was their home all their lives. They lived on a farm on the Minnesota and Iowa state line, now the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Moore, Mrs. Moore being a granddaughter of the Welch's. Mr. David Welch was married in Ireland to Margaret Robinson, a native of Antrim county, Ireland, being born there in February. To Mr. and Mrs. Welch were given a fine family of five daughters and three sons. Jane, who married Allen Stroud; Maggie who became the wife of George Wells; Fanny, now Mrs. Frank Babcock; Mary later Mrs. John Darrington; Kate, who married L. J. Antrim; David, John, and William R. Out of this family of eight children, but two remain, Mrs. Jane Stroud of Mabel, and Fanny Babcock, who resides in Dakota.
