PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

Truman B Wiles was born in 1826. Abbie Dyer, his wife, was born in 1828. They came to Winneshiek county from New york in 1866 and settled in Hesper. He took up the trade of a carpenter and all their lives resided in Hesper, being one of the first Justices of the Peace. Their son Dennis grew to manhood here and took up farming in Hesper township. In 1853 he went to Dakota remaining until 1888, when he bought land in Minnesota. He was married to Emma Nelson and they were the parents of a son, Stacy.
