PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

Elijah Clark came here in 1853. He was born in the state of New York in 1808. At the age of 21 he went to the upper part of Canada, where he engaged himself at lumbering and farming. The year 1838 he moved to McHenry county, Illinois, remaining there until 1853. He bought a claim in Hesper township and remained there only a few years then going to Fremont twonship. His wife was the former Lydia Belles. The two were married in Canada in 1833.
