PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941
John S. Losen was born in Melhus, Norway, in the year 1819. He emigrated to the United States in 1851. Mrs. Losen was born in Holalen, Rorass, Norway, September 5, 1818. Her name was Maren Ryalen. She came with her parents to America in 1821. In the spring of 1851 she and Mr. Losen were married. They first settled near Madison, Wis., but they did not remain there long. They set out from that place and walked and evidently were ferried across the Mississippe River some place. They found suitable land near the center of Hesper township and built up a home, which is today still in possession of a Losen. Indians prawled the country and their children were never allowed to venture far from their home. Mr. and Mrs. Losen were given four children, all of whom have passed to the great beyond.
