PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

Edwin Blackmarr, a native of Saratoga county, New York was born in 1819. In 1835 he moved to Huron county, Ohio,and was engaged in farming until 1850 when he went to Indiana. He bought land on Looking Glass Prairie, when he arrived in Hesper township in 1854. After a few years he moved to the village of Burr Oak, where he conducted the "Burr Oak House," for one year. He then returned to his farm until 1866, when he sold out and again moved to Burr Oak, where he was engaged in the mercantile business and also postmaster. In 1875 he retired from active business. He married Miss A. Washburn and they were the parents of four children: Louisa, Byron, Oletta, and Melvin.
