Mildrid G. Nickson, 85, of Lake Mills, died Thursday, September 08, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Mildrid Genevieve (Tjernagel) Nickson was born on December 28, 1925, at home near Story City, Iowa, to Otto and Amanda (Huso) Tjernagel. She was baptized at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church also near Story City. She attended grade school in rural Story City, at Lime Creek near Emmons, Minnesota, and at Saude, Iowa. She attended Lake Mills High School in Lake Mills for three years and graduated from Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, Minnesota.

Before retiring, she worked for many years at the Lake Mills Graphic Publishing Company. She enjoyed camping, collecting and fixing antiques, woodworking, and genealogy. In the last few years, her passion for woodworking and antiques was evident by the work she contributed at the Victorian House in Lake Mills, Iowa. She also built her home in Lake Mills with her own two hands, from the framing to the electrical. She will always be remembered for her faith and the wonderful stories she told many family members and friends.

Survivors include her three children, Mildrid “Joanne” Nickson, Kenneth (Darcy) Nickson, and Lee (Barb) Nickson, all of Lake Mills; a daughter-in-law, Debbie (Michael) Chisholm; and eight grandchildren, Shannon (Ryan) Kesler, Crystal (Chris) Cockrum, Brook (Justin) Byars, Alisha (Dan) Mielke, Toni (Jared) Nicol, Brett Nickson, Michael (Dana) Chisholm, and Cody Nickson. She is also survived by her siblings, Amanda (Norman) Madson and Sven (Eloise) Tjernagel; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
