Frances I. Bienert
January 5, 1937 - September 12, 2011

FOREST CITY - Frances Bienert, age 74 of Forest City, died Monday, September 12, 2011, at the Concord Care Center in Garner, Iowa.

Frances Irene Bienert was born on January 5, 1937, in Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of Selmer and Stella (Wolfs) Carlson. Growing up on a farm a mile from Leland, Iowa, she attended elementary school in Leland and graduated from Forest City High School with the Class of 1955. She loved music and was very much involved with the choir and the band where she played the clarinet. She also participated in the school's drama productions.

She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Waldorf College and taught in the elementary schools in Klemme and Forest City. On June 7, 1958, she married Franklin Bienert. She taught for another year after her marriage before deciding to stay at home to care for her family.

She continued to share her gift of music as a pianist at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland and as an organist for the United Methodist Church and the Trinity Lutheran Church. She also played for numerous weddings and funerals.

Frances had an eye for antiques and loved to decorate. She frequented sales and auctions, enjoying the time visiting with people as much as searching for that special item. She also loved to take long walks, rode her bike when weather allowed, and enjoyed raising beautiful flowers. Nevertheless, she valued faith and family above all else in her life.

Frances is survived by her two children: Christopher (Kimberly) Bienert and Kristina Tracey and her fiancé, Anthony Sumo, and their children Anthonio and Zoey. Also surviving are her sisters, Joyce Aske, of Ames, Ruth Feldick, of Buffalo Center, and Elanor Vulgamott, of Webster City, and her brother, Luther Carlson, of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin, in 1993 and by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Douglas Farrell officiating. Burial will be at the Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to the service at the church.
