October 26, 1930 - December 4, 2010Lois Halverson, age 80, of Thompson, Iowa, died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at her home in Thompson, Iowa.
Lois Marie (Gjerstad) Halverson was born October 26, 1930, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Lawerence and Myrtle (Helgren) Gjerstad. She graduated from Thompson High School in 1948 and attended Luther College and Mankato State University. She taught elementary school for 25 years.
On May 30, 1952, Lois was united in marriage to Roger Lee Halverson at the Thompson Lutheran Church. Married for fifty-eight years, they lived first south of Buffalo Center for eleven years, then north of Thompson for thirty-seven years, and lastly nine and a half years in Thompson.
Lois enjoyed crafting, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren were near and dear to her heart. Lois was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church for forty-eight years.
Survivors include her husband Roger Halverson of Thompson, Iowa; her children: Mary Higdon and her husband Lee, of Plano, Texas, Thomas and his wife Julie Falcon, of Independence, Iowa, Bonnie Redepenning and her husband Steve, of Irving, Texas, and Susan Bergquist and her husband Mark, of Bloomington, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister Joann Jacobs and her husband Ronald, of Thompson, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her daughter Sally Sue, her parents, one brother, two nephews, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Thompson, Iowa, with Pastor Chris Fiske officiating. Inurnment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemtery.
Visitation will be Monday December 6, 2010, from 4 to 6 PM at Winter Funeral Home in Thompson, Iowa.
