(July 14, 1928 - January 14, 2010)

FOREST CITY - Rose Alice Ferjak, age 81 of Forest City, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, in Rochester, Minnesota.

Rose A. Ferjak was born on July 14, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Krizek) Kempton. She received her education at Our Lady of Loretto Academy in Chicago, Illinois.

She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Ferjak on November 27, 1945. The couple made their home in Oak Lawn and Palos Heights, Illinois. Rose’s primary career was that of a homemaker and a mother, raising her six boys.

Upon Joe’s retirement, Rose and Joe moved to Forest City where she was able to pursue her life long love of Art. She began studying Art at Waldorf College in Forest City and continued taking classes until the time of her death. She loved the interaction with the younger students, encouraging their talents and listening to their frustrations. She was a member of the Iowa Artists and exhibited her work at local and state shows where she received high honors. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching the game with her family and friends. She loved watching and cheering on her children and grandchildren in their athletic and music endeavors.

Rose was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest City. She was an Artist who loved learning new techniques with every piece that she painted. It gave her great joy to share her work with her friends and family. She was an avid reader and loved to cook, not only for family, but for friends and grandchildrens’ friends. She was known as Grandma Rose to many.

Rose is survived by her husband, Joseph; a brother, Walter Kempton of Phillips, Wisconsin; six children: Kenneth (Linda) Ferjak of Forest City, Iowa; Brian (Darlene) Ferjak of Phoenix, Arizona; Michael (Deb) Ferjak of Madrid, Iowa; Steve (JoAnne) Ferjak of Killingworth, Connecticut; Joseph Ferjak of Killingworth, Connecticut; John (Tracy) Ferjak of Aurora, Illinois and 12 grandchildren; William (Jacqlyn), Melanie (Loren Lorenz), Abigail, Jennifer (Eric Alfredson), Chrissy (Ryan Gust), Sarah, Emily, Julie Rose (Ken Batacao), Cole, Margaret, Sam and Michael, and one great-grandchild; Amber Rose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandchild, Kenneth.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St in Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.
