Reuben Carroll Hinderaker
May 18, 1929 - September 13, 2016

Reuben Carroll Hinderaker, age 87, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Reuben was born on May 18, 1929, at Radcliffe, Iowa, to Clarence and Ruth (Larson) Hinderaker. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As a young child, he moved with his parents to Sargeant, Minnesota, where he attended country school. On November 7, 1987, Reuben married Rose (Hansen) Braadland at Thompson, Iowa. He farmed and worked at various factory jobs before retiring in 1994.

A very kind and considerate person, Reuben liked the simple things in life. He loved going to county fairs, parades, and various threshing events in the area as well as attending old car and tractor shows. Moreover, he enjoyed fishing and having coffee and visiting with his friends at the Grand Café and Don’s Motor Mart. A member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, he valued his faith.

Reuben is survived by a sister, Audrey Halsey, of Austin, Minnesota; four brothers, Gaylord (Sharlene) Hinderaker, of Waverly, Iowa, Roger (Nancy) Hinderaker, of Shell Rock, Iowa, Harold Hinderaker, of Forest City, Iowa, and Charles (Shirley) Hinderaker, of Austin, Minnesota; four step-daughters, Marilyn (Bert) Songstad, of Phoenix, Arizona, Susan (Darris) Peterson, of Scarville, Iowa, Julie (Rick) Aragon, of Arvada, Colorado, and Lori (Mike) Bethel, of Big Lake, Minnesota; a step-son, Lon Sundsvold, and Meri Lee Cowling, of Hibbing, Minnesota; a step-daughter-in-law, Karen Sundsvold, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Joyce Anderson, of Clarion, Iowa, Howard (Dottie) Hansen, of Spring Hill, Florida, Harlan (Lola) Hansen, of Glendale, Arizona, Merv (Klaudene) Hansen, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Frank (Jan) Hansen, of Iola, Wisconsin, and Jerry Hansen, of Waupaca, Wisconsin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Reuben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose; a sister, Phyllis Hinderaker; two brothers-in-law, Sy Halsey and Howard Anderson; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Hansen; and a step-son Larry Sundsvold.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, Iowa, with Rev. Brent Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Synod Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Mills. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
