Alvin L. Hofbauer
October 14, 1928 - September 9, 2016Alvin Louis Hofbauer, a son of Henry F. and Alice (Rippentrop) Hofbauer, was born on October 14, 1928, in Lakota. He attended country grade school at Grant # 2 and then Buffalo Center High School where he graduated in 1946. Next, he studied Dairy Herd Management at Iowa State University. He, then, worked as a supervisor for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) in Winnebago and Kossuth Counties before his marriage.
On June 18, 1950, Alvin married T. Jean Rusley at the Winnebago Lutheran Church. They began farming that year south of Buffalo Center. Alvin, passionately, loved raising animals and farming throughout the years. After he retired from farming in 1990, he and Jean enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and later in Yuma, Arizona.
In his younger years, Alvin played softball for the BC-Woden Men’s League. Moreover, he participated in the Men’s Bowling League and bowled for Classic Bowling with Robert Klassen. An active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he served as Church Council President and became a Luther League Sponsor. He died on Friday, September 9, 2016, at the age of 87.
Alvin is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Jean Hofbauer, of Buffalo Center; his three daughters, Susan K. Hora, and her husband, Marvin, of Coon Rapids, Laurel J. Blanshan, and her husband, Douglas, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Beth Ann H. Borseth, and her husband, Daniel, of Aitkin, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Kristin Jean (Hora) Beach, and her husband, Jed; Maggie Rose Borseth; Jonathan Louis Houser, and his wife, Liz; Joseph Larry Houser, and his wife, Shae; Janna Susan (Hora) Loeffler, and her husband, Court; and Jacob Alvin Redepenning; five great-grandchildren: Maxwell Hora Beach; Bentley Louis and Emalyn Renee Houser; and Evan Daniel and Owen Alvin Redepenning; and a sister, Carol Meyer, and her husband, Gary, of Ringsted; as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harold Hofbauer.
A memorial service for Alvin Hofbauer will be held Friday, September 30, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. Inurnment will follow in Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center. His family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
