Floyd W. Johnson
November 5, 1929 - September 16, 2016

Floyd W. Johnson, 86, of Forest City, died on Friday, September 16, 2016, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

A son of Ole and Marie (Schmid) Johnson, Floyd was born on November 5, 1929, in Forest Township, Winnebago County. He attended Linden Country School #5 and graduated from Thompson High School in 1947. On October 28, 1950, he married Betty A. Rhubee at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center. They moved to a farm southwest of Thompson where they farmed and resided for the next sixty years, raising their three daughters, Debra, Roxanne, and Jaclyn. After retiring from farming, Floyd enjoyed working at 3M for six years. In 2011, he and Betty moved to Forest City.

A longtime active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Floyd enjoyed the time he spent with his family, friends, and community. A longtime member of the Thompson Lions Club, he, also, served on the Thompson Elevator Board. He and Betty, especially, enjoyed boating, dancing, camping, travelling, playing cards, bowling, and celebrating many special occasions together with a close circle of friends. He treasured his family members and always gathered them around the table for all birthday and holiday celebrations.

Floyd is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Betty, of Forest City; his daughters, Debra, and her husband, Harold McCracken, of Galveston, Texas, and their children, Erin Pillow, Lindsey Carlblom, Melissa McCracken and Matt (Shannon) McCracken; Roxanne and her husband, Kent Krominga, of Forest City, and their children Monica Harman, Megan Johns, Marcus Curry (Morgan Smith), Deanna (Jeff) Brasch, Regina (Tom) Prentice, Marcie (Jason) Lane, and Kate (Dan) Frerichs; and Jaci Thorson (Steve Dummett), of Forest City, and her sons, Seth (Amy), Todd, and Tyler Thorson; seventeen great-grandchildren with one more arriving in October; and his sisters-in-law, Norma Olson and Mavis and Judie Johnson.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Sara Thorson; his sister, Gladys Lodin; his brothers, Delbert and Donald Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Donald Olson and Arnold Lodin; and his grandson-in-law, Don Harman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with Pastor Rod Hopp of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. Visitation will take place between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M., Monday, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, and also for one hour before the services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude’s Research, or Bethany Lutheran Church.
