Rose Julia Suby
October 9, 1928 - January 16, 2016

Surrounded by her family, Rose Julia Suby, 87, of Forest City, died on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at her home.

Rose was born on October 9, 1928, in Forest City to Jacob and Rugna (Heindal) Severson. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, Rose received her education in the Forest City Public Schools and later furthered it at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the areas of Health Aide Homemaker and E.M.T.

On March 31, 1950, Rose married the love of her life, Adell Suby, from Fertile, Iowa, at Immanuel Lutheran church. Born into this union were their three children: Terry, Jerry, and Jan.

Rose and Adell resided in Forest City where Adell was employed at the City Light Plant for thirty-six years. Rose worked part-time in various retail stores while raising their three children. In addition, she volunteered for the Scouts, Sunday school, and other church related activities. After the family had grown, she worked for two years at Stichcraft. Having built their family home when they were 24, Adell and Rose, later, enjoyed building and remodeling several investment homes in Forest City as well.

Rose, especially, liked volunteering for the ambulance service, having joined when it first started. In the beginning, Stan Peterson transported patients in the back of a funeral home hearse. As fundraising and donations came in, however, the committee was able to replace the hearse with a station wagon and later with a used ambulance. In the summer, Rose liked to jump on her new moped to be on first call for the hospital. Through her service, Rose discovered her real calling in life, caring for the elderly. Finding the work both interesting and rewarding, she loved every moment of helping to care for the many people in the Forest City area.

Rose found her greatest joy in life, however, in spending time with her kids, grandkids, and her special neighbors, Kathy and Ron Arends. Loving and living life to the fullest, Rose filled her time with fun and laughter. She enjoyed family vacations, camping in trailers, and traveling in their Winnebago. She and Adell took many trips out West. Among her most memorable trips, however, she included two family vacations to Hawaii.

Rose is survived by her children: Terry Suby, of Edina, Minnesota, Jan (Randy) Groves, of Forest City, and Jerry Suby of Walford, Iowa; her grandchildren: Cheryl Lynn Chartier, of North Liberty, Iowa, Jason Suby, of Edina, Minnesota, Jesse Groves (Tiffany), of Forest City, Dallas (Ashley) Groves, of Clear Lake, Joshua (Syreeta) Groves, of Forest City, and Gary (Shannon) Suby, of Cedar Rapids; and her great grandchildren: Blake, Logan, Rylea, Jayce, Skyla, Shaelyn, Avenlee, Cayden, and Gianna.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St, Forest City, Iowa. Inurnment of her cremains will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Rose J. Suby memorial fund in care of the family.
