August 12, 1927 - January 14, 2016Opal Teig, 88 of Rake, died on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Opal Carmen Teig was born on August 12, 1927, in Rake, Iowa, to Oscar and Lillian (Knudtson) Quam. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, she attended school in Rake, and after graduating, she enrolled in the business college in Mankato, Minnesota.
Upon returning to the Rake area, Opal met and married Wayne Teig. A homemaker and loving mother to her three children, Opal farmed with Wayne south of Rake until they retired. Then, they moved into Rake.
Opal was active in the community. Her hobbies included bowling and golfing. A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, she remained very active in the church, holding many offices and giving readings at various programs.
Opal leaves to her beloved memory her daughter, Janelle (George) Bauer; her sons, Danny and Terry; her grandchildren Mike (Christie) Bauer and Scott (Lynn) Bauer; and five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Rygh.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Winter Funeral Home. Private graveside services are being planned at West Cemetery in Rake.
