Mable Rose Shropshire
April 19, 1923 - February 02, 2016

Mable Rose Shropshire, 92, of Thompson, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A daughter of Andrew and Hannah (Christopherson) Olson, Mable Rose (Olson) Shropshire was born in Thompson, Iowa, on April 19, 1923. Baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, she, also, attended and graduated from Thompson Community Schools in Thompson, Iowa.

On December 28, 1942, Mable married Verne Shropshire at Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five sons: Lewis Charles, Dennis Laverne, Wayne Alan, Gary Lee, and Terry Eugene. They made their home on the family farm northwest of Thompson. More recently, however, Mable resided at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa.

After her sons had grown and left home, Mable worked for eighteen years as the Office Manager for the North Iowa Community Action Organization. After she and Verne retired, they, very much, enjoyed the five years they spent together wintering in Arizona in their motor home. In addition, she liked visiting with friends and going on outings with her sister, Alice. Moreover, throughout her life, Mable, truly, loved the Lord.

She is survived by her children, Chuck (Joyce) Shropshire, of Crystal Lake, Iowa, Dennis (fiancée, Sara) Shropshire, Wayne Shropshire, and Gary Shropshire, all of of Thompson, Iowa; and Terry Shropshire, of Forest City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice (Hestness) Gould, of Osage, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mable was preceded in death by her husband, Verne; her parents, Andrew and Hannah; her in-laws, Lewis C. and Berta Shropshire; her granddaughter, Lucy; her grandson, Cory; and her great-granddaughter, Ashley; as well as by all her siblings save one and a number of friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 6, 2016, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with Pastor Wayne Halvorson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson, Iowa.
